In September 2020, the U.S. Department of Defense published an interim rule that incorporates Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification ("CMMC") requirements into new regulations that apply to DoD agencies and defense contractors. The interim rule also unveils new regulations that require DoD contractors to undergo assessments of their implementation of NIST SP 800-171 security controls.
